Exova has enhanced the capabilities of the HVAC Performance Laboratory through the addition of a humidity controlled environmental test chamber that simulates both indoor and outdoor test conditions. Temperatures in the range -40ºC to +80ºC can be simulated. Additional laboratory enhancements include accurate metering of gas and water flow, electrical power consumption, pressure and temperature measurements, as well as continuous monitoring through the use of a programmable data acquisition system. The laboratory is also equipped with a constant temperature water supply and a new infrared CO/CO2 analyser for precise measurement of combustion products from gas-fired appliances.
The HVAC Laboratory is the only facility in North America that is accredited by HVI for certification of HRV and ERV systems. Furthermore, this facility was selected by NRCan to conduct verification testing for the eKOCOMFORT initiative in which Canadian manufacturers developed an assortment of integrated appliances that combined space and water heating as well as ventilation through the use of heat recovery ventilators (HRV).
The HVAC Laboratory is ideal for conducting performance evaluation for a range of electric and gas-fired appliances, including:
- Gas and electric water heaters with storage tanks or instantaneous systems
- Residential gas-fired boilers
- Integrated appliances eKOCOMFORT products, combo systems
- Construction heaters
- Gas and electric clothes dryers
The technical staff of the Energy Systems Group can provide assistance in product development, troubleshooting, combustion analysis and pre-certification assessment of new products.
